This summer, Southern California has experienced its hottest summer in over 100 years! At FTOC, we know our patients don’t slow down for summer. That’s why we want to provide some ways to ensure you are keeping your health in check this summer.
The Importance of Sunblock
The importance of sunblock is too often overlooked, especially by kids. Sunblock is an important tool in preventing skin cancer, and the earlier you start using it, the more effective it is. Helping your family form habits of applying sunblock every morning, before heading out the door can prevent painful sunburns, and future health issues.

Hydrate!

Keeping yourself hydrated is crucial to beating this heat. Not all drinks are made the same, however. While many think any drink provides hydration, the best way to hydrate is with water. In fact, caffeinated beverages such as energy drinks, teas, and coffee, actually dehydrate your body even more. A good rule of thumb is, if you are thirsty, you’re probably dehydrated! Try filling a water bottle to bring with you for the day. This way you can refill it, and ensure you are getting enough water.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Fresh produce is in season! Not only do most fruits and vegetables taste the best this time of year, prices are also lower on these items at most stores and markets. Try satisfying any sweet cravings with fresh fruits such as berries or mangoes. This is also a great time to try new vegetable rich recipes that you’ve wanted to attempt. Adding in more fruits and vegetables can help boost your immune system this summer.
