Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellness: Families Together Kicks Off Year-Long Initiative to Raise Awareness About Medi-Cal Benefits, Targeting the Newly Eligible Age Group

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUSTIN, Calif., January 12, 2023 – Families Together of Orange County Community Health Center (FTOC) is proud to announce a year-long initiative focused on raising awareness and understanding of Medi-Cal benefits among California residents. This comes in the wake of the recent expansion of benefits to the 26-49-year-old age group, irrespective of immigration status. FTOC is set to launch this year-long campaign at its Wellness Center in Tustin this Saturday, January 13 with an Open House, showcasing some of the lesser-known benefits families can access if they qualify for Medi-Cal.

Recognizing the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals in the 26-49 age group, Families Together is committed to bridging the knowledge gap and promoting overall health and wellness within the community. Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program, provides crucial healthcare services to low-income individuals and families. Despite this, there exists a significant lack of awareness, especially among the 26-49 age group, regarding the comprehensive benefits it offers. Families Together aims to address this by providing valuable information and spotlighting the diverse range of services available to qualified individuals.

Millennials constitute the largest segment within the new age demographic that could be eligible for Medi-Cal, and statistics show that millennials place a higher value on mental health and overall well-being compared to previous generations. 1To amplify the message about the new expansion, FTOC’s approach is to initially highlight the various mental health and wellness resources accessible to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

Understanding the importance of holistic well-being, Families Together proudly offers wellness and mental health services for its patients, including counseling, nutrition classes, cooking classes, weight resistance training, and more, in conjunction with each patient’s medical journey. All of these services, which are covered by Medi-Cal, will be showcased at the community health center’s Open House this Saturday. Additionally, the nonprofit’s Benefits Enrollment Navigators will be present to assist people with their Medi-Cal applications and answer any questions attendees have about Medi-Cal.

The Open House will provide community members with an opportunity to explore the facility, interact with healthcare professionals, and gain a firsthand understanding of the various benefits that Medi-Cal can offer to those who qualify.

Claudia Magee, Director of Community Support & Development at Families Together, is leading the organization’s Medi-Cal Application and Renewal assistance program. The team has been working with individuals to renew and apply for Medi-Cal over the past three years:

“We’re excited to unveil this initiative, directly addressing the distinct needs of the 26-49 age group based on insights gained from our close relationship with the community. By customizing our approach, raising awareness of Medi-Cal benefits, and addressing concerns, we strive to empower individuals in this demographic and the wider community with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health.”

The open house is scheduled for this Saturday, January 13 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and is open to all community members. Families Together invites residents to join the event, ask questions, and learn more about the healthcare services available to them through Medi-Cal.

Date: Saturday, January 13

Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Location: Families Together Wellness Center

Address: 621 W. 1st Street, Tustin, CA 92780
