Families Together of Orange County (FTOC) is pleased to have participated in the Afghan Refugee Health Assessment Fair on February 19, 2022. Through this 1-day event, 40 Afghan refugees had the opportunity to complete health assessments as part of an 18-section health screening that helps detect, identify and screen for chronic diseases and mental health concerns as well as assess immunization status. During this event, 14 of FTOC’s healthcare staff members (LCSWs, DOs, Medical Assistants) were among those who assisted patients through a circuit that provided medical and vision services with the goal of helping to assist newly arrived Afghan refugees in achieving self-sufficiency by becoming and staying healthy.

Alexander Rossel, CEO of Families Together of Orange County says:
“We’re proud to partner with the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, the OC Healthcare Agency and Share Our Selves in helping to integrate Afghan refugees into Orange County. With these health assessments, we’ll be able to provide these families the tools and medical attention needed for them to stay healthy.”

Thanks to the collaboration of community partners such as the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, the OC Health Care Agency, Share Our Selves, the County of Orange Social Services Agency, UPLIFT, Lestonnac Free Clinic, and the Orange County Department of Education, the all-encompassing resettlement of Afghan refugees in Orange County becomes an assisted experience where refugees receive the support system needed to navigate their new lives.
