Families Together’s #NewYearNewMe Campaign Empowers Patients To Take Charge Of Their Health Care In 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUSTIN, Calif., January 10, 2023 – A new year is filled with new beginnings, and for many that means making lifestyle changes to improve their health. With roughly 1 in 4 people reportedly skipping out on annual doctor’s visits,[1] Families Together of Orange County is challenging its patients and the community to make healthcare part of their 2023 resolutions with the campaign, #NewYearNewMe.

The #NewYearNewMe campaign focuses on educating people about the importance of visiting the doctor, and how often to do so, with the goal of empowering patients to take control of their health in 2023 and beyond.

The lack of education regarding general healthcare is not unique to a specific gender or age demographic. However, cost is also a factor for many families, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured. According to a 2018 survey conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago and the West Health Institute, 40 percent of Americans report skipping a recommended medical test or treatment due to cost.[2]

To address these gaps, the #NewYearNewMe campaign will provide videos and posts online that focus on topics including: when people within certain age groups should be visiting a doctor, when and how often men and women should see specialists such as an OB/GYN, the benefits of annual check ups, when to get certain vaccines, and how to take advantage of the healthcare resources available to the community.

Alexander Rossel, CEO of Families Together states:

“What people may not realize is that many of the most common diseases and health concerns are preventable with routine check ups. At Families Together, our goal is not just to provide high quality healthcare, but also education. We know that knowledge is power, and with the #NewYearNewMe campaign we want to put power into the hands of our patients to ultimately help stop serious health issues in their tracks.”

Community health centers like Families Together serve underprivileged communities by working to break down barriers to accessing essential health and wellness services, with two of the most common barriers among patients being cost and education.

The #NewYearNewMe campaign will run through the month of January and can be followed online via the organization’s social media channels: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter. More information can be found at the Families Together website at www.familiestogetheroc.org.
