TUSTIN, Calif., January 14, 2022 – Families Together of Orange County Community Health Center is pleased to announce its participation in the Refugee Health Assessment Program (RHAP) in Orange County as one of five community health centers providing comprehensive health assessments for Afghan refugees settling in Orange County, California.

Families Together of Orange County is serving more than 300 refugees split between five Refugee Health Assessment Program clinic participants with health screenings, which commenced this week and include the following:

  • Screening and treating communicable diseases
  • Identifying chronic diseases and other important medical conditions
  • Assessing immunization status for children and adults
  • Providing mental health screenings
  • Referring those with significant medical and mental health conditions to health providers for further evaluation, treatment, and following

The community health center has prepared for the arrival of the refugees by putting into place a program that fits the linguistic and cultural necessities of each new patient. With a translator on hand and medical providers who are fluent in the language and have a familiarity with the culture, Families Together is working hard to make sure that each family that comes through its health center feels comfortable and welcomed.

At Families Together, patients of the Refugee Health Assessment Program will have the opportunity to be given access to an array of essential health services including:

  • Access to the Wellness Center’s programs, food pantry and counseling services
  • Medical specialty services such as women’s health, nephrology and more
  • Dental specialty services including orthodontics and oral surgery
  • Transportation to and from all appointments

The Refugee Health Assessment Program (RHAP) is dedicated to assisting newly arrived refugees in achieving self-sufficiency by providing them with the tools needed to become and stay healthy. The program provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to groups that are eligible for refugee health assessments through the California Department of Public Health Office of Refugee Health.
