Covid-19 Protection And Community Support Amid Recent Surge In Cases

PARA PUBLICACIÓN INMEDIATA

TUSTIN, Calif., September 19, 2023– With the winter season fast approaching and a notable surge in COVID-19 cases, combined with the looming threat of respiratory illnesses such as flu and RSV, safeguarding oneself is paramount. Medical practices, pharmacies and federally qualified health centers nationwide, including Families Together of Orange County, are gearing up for the new wave by boosting vaccine and test supplies along with raising awareness.

Now that the public health emergency is officially over, concerns about the evolving COVID-19 landscape, especially regarding costs, are at the forefront. Encouragingly, government agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that the new COVID-19 vaccine remains accessible to all.

After approval from the CDC, updated Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are rolling out across the nation this week, and are recommended for anyone 6 months or older regardless of prior vaccination status. Here’s how to access them:

  • Individuals with insurance can access vaccines at no cost to them at any health center, pharmacy or their local doctor’s office
  • For adults who are uninsured or underinsured, the Bridge Access Program will provide free vaccines at participating health centers, pharmacies and healthcare providers until December 31, 2024
  • Low income families may access Covid-19 vaccines for children through the Vaccines for Children program

While efforts are underway to ensure accessibility to the updated vaccines, fostering adoption is anticipated to require some persuasion, especially within minority and low-income communities – the primary focus of community health centers.

Alexander Rossel, CEO of Families Together of Orange County, emphasizes, “Our commitment at Families Together of Orange County extends beyond vaccine administration. We are devoted to offering extensive education and vital resources, empowering the community to safeguard their health and prevent hospitalizations and fatalities due to COVID-19.”

Families Together of Orange County, alongside all community health centers, continues to play a pivotal role in serving communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Their proactive involvement within the most affected communities positions them to be instrumental in preventing future waves of hospitalizations and fatalities due to COVID-19.

Families Together of Orange County will be providing the updated Covid-19 vaccines to the community.
